This webinar is designed to introduce coaches, athletes, and aspiring athletes to concepts of foundations of mental training such as goal setting, psychosomatic skills of relaxation and activation, and mental skills of self talk, focus, and visualization for performance enhancement.

Seminar leaders will be Dr. Kim van Walsum, C.Psych. registered psychologist, and Peter Lloyd, MBA, racing coach of the Nakkertok Ski Club in Ottawa, Ontario.

Dr. van Walsum is a clinical health psychologist with a specific focus on mind-body strategies for optimal performance.  She has held faculty and adjunct instructor positions at Texas A&M College of Medicine, and Trent University Department of Psychology, and is a member of the Applied Sports Psychology Association.  Dr. van Walsum has worked extensively using mind-body techniques with young athletes from backgrounds as diverse as football, bobsledding, speedskating, swimming, and squash through the Musculoskeletal Unit of the Alberta Children's Hospital as well as her own private practice.  She has recently provided training to young elite athletes in nordic skiing.  She participates in trail running, rowing, and cross country skiing.

Peter Lloyd, MBA is a successful racing coach with the Nakkertok Ski Club in Ottawa, Ontario.  In addition to a successful marketing career, he has coaching certifications in triathlon and nordic skiing.  His accomplishments as an athlete include a national podium win in competitive canoeing/kayaking, competitive nordic skiing, and avid trail running.  His accomplishments as a coach include multiple national level podium performances for Nakkertok athletes, and a second place overall standing nationally for Nakkertok at the 2008 Junior Nationals.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be introduced to the mental skills assessment, foundational skills, psychosomatic/regulation skills, and cognitive skills that all athletes and coaches should be using for optimal performance.
